Title: Howling Wolf Drawing

Material: Pen and Ink, Graphite, and Charcoal

This was a project where we had to draw something and divide it into 3rds then apply either pen and ink, graphite or charcoal onto each side.  This was used to get us familiar with the different drawing techniques and also to help us visually see the difference between the different styles.

I chose to do a howling wolf because I enjoy drawing wolves and try to get better and better with each drawing.  starting from the left was the pen and ink, the center one is graphite and the right one is charcoal.

Title: Segar

This is a project I completed in my drawing class.  We had to draw a portrait of a cartoon artist with two of their works, their birth and death day, a little slogan and how they signed their name.

I chose E. C. Segar the creator of the Popeye cartoon.  The reason why I chose him was because I have always liked Popeye growing up.  The slogan is one of the phrases Popeye uses quite frequently whenever he is mad or has had enough.  Segar’s signature is definitely unique and quite fascinating, I remember that it was a little difficult trying to mimic his signature style, the cigar is part of his signature style.  The characters are Popeye and Wimpey.

Title: The Gunslinger

This project we had creative freedom on drawing something from any book we could think of.  I chose The Dark Tower series by Stephen King.  The dark tower image I used, was based off the Tower on the first book “The Gunslinger”.  I incorporated pieces of information from the different books.  Of course the gunslinger appears in all of the books but this image was based of the first book as well.  The door is from the second book, “The Drawing Of The Three”, in which Roland, the gunslinger, sees these doors that leads to different times/dimensions.  The Rose first appears in the third book in the series and helps guide Roland and his companions throughout their journey.

Title: Werewolf Portrait

This project we had to do a self portrait based off of an old bubble gum card sets.  The one I chose was the 1957 You’ll Die Laughing series.  The series takes a creature or ghoul and then has a funny little caption at the bottom of the card that correlates to the image.

This image is a person pretty much minding their own business not realizing that they just transformed into a werewolf and started growing hair all over their body due to the full moon.

Title: Ponyo

This piece was somewhat difficult to paint but also pretty fun once I got used to the technique.  The reason why it was difficult was because painting with Gouache is a balancing act.  The reason is because Gouache is an opaque watercolor technique.  You had to have the right balance between paint and water in order to use it correctly; as well as, make enough paint in that shade of grey so you didn’t run out and try to create the exact shade that you originally had.

The project itself was that we had to choose an image in the textbook that we had and paint it.  The poster of the movie Ponyo by Studio Ghibli was in there and I decided to draw and paint it because I’ve always liked Studio Ghibli’s movies and animation styles.

Title: Coloring Book Wolf

This project we had to draw something designed for a coloring book using pen and ink.  This piece was a fun piece to create; however, I know that my lines aren’t the straightest.  I decided to do a wolf with a mosaic style background and a blood moon.

This was a fun and exciting drawing to create.  The challenging part was thinking what parts to make it into a coloring book and how to present it as such.

Title: Attack Wolf

This project we needed to paint an animal using the Gouache paint; so I decided to do a wolf that was about to attack.  I will say this drawing was a bit difficult because I’m not used to drawing wolves with their mouth open or at this angle and it was a struggle getting the mouth how I wanted it.
